When I was a kid, my grandmother would always buy me a copy of the World Weekly News when she went out grocery shopping. Unfortunately, WWN shut down last summer but I hope that somehow this post helps its legacy live on.

I had a shop teacher in high school that was obsessed with that bat boy
Personally I am partial to the COUNTDOWN TO THE APOCALYPSE! cover
The only funny thing about those is that people bought them.
I thought “The Onion” had crazy stuff, but I can’t figure out if this is parody or what?
People paid money for these papers?
Hey Renovator, thanks for the comment!
The WWN carries the disclaimer that ‘the reader should suspend disbelief for their enjoyment’, so it’s definitely meant to be funny. However, I’m sure there are people out there who believe some of the stories within!
They have photographed proof of all of these events, it’s obviously true!
Heaven photographed by Hubble Telescope is sweet because that is totally what a scientist would say.
I would be only too happy to pay for these fabulous pieces of literature. In coming ages, they will be regarded with the same reverence as “The Inferno” and Shakespeare’s plays (with the exception of Titus Andronicus, which was a terrible play yo).
Pick a favorite!? That’s like picking a favorite Picasso painting. It can’t be done. They’re all classics. The one I remember is: “B-52 found on moon.” I did not know WWN shut down. Thanks for doing your part to keep it alive.
Oh gods, that was hilarious. XD My favorite, I think, was the one that says that aliens worship Oprah.
I’m pretty sure that they’re not serious. I find it sad if people do take them seriously; it’s purely for entertainment. Satire. Parody. It’s amazing.
My personal favorite isn’t pictured here. If memory serves me correctly, it was in the summer of 2002, the headline: The Vatican’s answer to the clergy sex scandal: ROBOT PRIESTS!
I’m highly disappointed that “Satan Escapes From Hell in Oil Well Fire” wasn’t on the list. The picture was just that, an oil well fire with a cloud of smoke hanging above, of course with the face of Lucifer glaring down at the world.
It may not have been that great, but it’s always been my favorite — not because I’m a Satan lover or anything, but because I saw it twice. Eight years apart. It graced the cover — twice.
That’s right. Satan escaped from hell TWICE…and the same photographer was there each time.
Anyone who takes these seriously has some issues.
Man, who honestly sees those and says to themselves “That seems like a compelling article, I must read it!”
I remember getting these when I was bored because they were always good for a nice laugh.
I’m sad to learn they are no longer around.
There’s a relatively funny movie out of the nineties called “So I married an ax murderer”, with Mike Meyers. The basic plot is that one of these tabloids has a story about this woman who marries men then kills them, and the main character begins to suspect it’s happening to him. Good stuff.
I the weekly world news is hilarious, or was. Sad to see it go. Sure, there may be some who actually believe the stuff; but they’d find stupid crap to believe in without the tabloids anyway.
You forgot “Worlds fattest cat saves babies from burning building”.
my best friend was on the cover of the weekly world news!
she had *Tastebuds on her feet*
OMG. i loved the Weekly World News and was SOOOO disappointed when they stopped printing them! this just made my day!
Thanks guys, it means a lot to me to hear you liked these!
LMAO, ohh wow these are awsome, loved the bigfoot stuff and robot cheney. Nice upload
I always knew there was something odd about Oprah!
Very very funny, but about 2/3 of them are quite sad as these tabloids show what is essentially flawed in american society - the british ones are bad but this analogy with aliens to foreign immigrants is fucking disgraceful.
They are still on the internet.I just goggled it and it came up.I enjoyed it very much and always left it in the bathroom for reading material
I was about 12 when I saw this in a store. I bought it thinking the “conclusive evidence of Roswell landing” was totally serious. I got totally freaked out reading the article about mosquitoes using teamwork to gang up on people.
In all seriousness:
Weekly World News was/is one of the finest experiments in the history of American journalism. It is, quite literally, the world’s only reliable newspaper- reliable to be 100% full-of-s#it, whereas most papers are only 5-10% full-of-s#it.
You can learn more about the importance of checking one’s sources in one issue of WWN than in a decade of collegiate-level study.
WWN teaches its reader a very important lesson: consider the source. Just because someone printed it, and photo-shopped a graphic for it, doesn’t make it true.
I only hope that those who left comments mocking WWN apply this same critical thinking to MSNBC, Fox, CNN, et all.
Our high school did a musical entitled Bat Boy: The Musical!
i never saw it, but it was apparently really hilarious, and absolutely based on the Weekly World News article.
You people are so glib! If you had read a word of this with opened minds you would understand that this is all true and that our world is going to be coming to an end very soon! The Hubble has the pictures of who have been faithful to the last Zinglonian. It’s not hard. You must wear a special hat that can be constructed out of Zinglonia’s most precious element which we know as common tin foil! You also must rub nipples with those who are faithful to the last Zinglonian. When he invades this planet the Bat Boy will battle him and we all shall be taken home.
Bat Child Found In Cave was always my favorite… Probably because it was one of the more popular ones… It just makes me laugh.
Once I read an cover story in The Weekly World News about an obese man who had a stomach stapling, raided the nurses refrigerator and ate a bunch, and blew out his stomach staples. He then sued the hospital for “allowing him access to food”.
The best thing about this story is that I know it is true, as it happened in a Virginia hospital near me about a year prior to appearing in The Weekly World News.
So based on my study of Weekly World News stories (n=1), they’ve all turned out to be true…
I have been in 2 issues. Once as a marriage counselor who used magic to get couples back together. The second as a body guard and right arm man for the Pope as he performed an exorcism.
It was a ton of fun.

yes they are all true! In fact i went on the bigfoot diet and lost 225 pounds
in cover 9, the left bigfoot…is he scratching his nuts? He does have a nutscratch look on his face.
I remember the Bat Boy one, I was just a kid then. In the grocery store with my mom, freakin horrified at that creepy cover.
This was a great look back in time. Very funny stuff. Thanks
My favorite headline was from years ago.
“Russians clone 100 Hitlers on the moon!”
Who would want to clone the fascist leader more than the communists?
Oh geez. Was my favorite the Hillary Clinton adopting an alien or the one about Jesus’ shoe? Hmmm. Tough call. I miss WWN. Every Christmas we’d buy one for my dad. When they shut down my mom scoured the internet and bought dad a book with the best WWN articles. Ahhh WWN…you will be missed.
My favorite was:
Woman Gives Birth to Chimpanzee…Sues Sperm Bank
A personal face of mine was- The Real Obama: High Stakes, Hookers and Hummus.
Classic.

I especially remember Bat Boy and the Big Foot love slave.
Bat Boy scared the living SHIT out of me.
My favourite one isn’t listed here, but the front cover said:
“DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL - I thought she was a bird”
Cracked me up so much!
my grandma used to get these when i was younger and she believed everything in it. but i actually remember reading them and the bat child found in cave i remember it. but yeah they are funny.

It has been forever since I have read one. My mom bought them for me too when I was younger. Pretty fun to read as pure entertainment, but they were way overpriced.

What was funny about any of this? I mean except for the scientific research showing that Jesus looked a lot like Osama Bin Laden.
